Humanitarian organisation, Gift of the Givers, has said refugees who were affected by the fire near Kensington were anxious about the loss of their identity documents.

The fire began on Thursday and burnt down a white marquee tent that refugees were living in.

Around 248 people have since been left homeless, with most of their belongings damaged.

The fire has since been extinguished, and efforts have begun to clear fire debris and rubble.

Gift of the Givers have been at the site, providing hot meals and water to affected persons.

Spokesperson for the organisation, Ali Sablay, said they would be providing humanitarian relief to the refugees for the next few days.

"When our team got on site, most of the residents came to us. They were extremely hungry, they're concerned. The children just got back from school and there's young babies around and there's elderly people as well. We provided immediate humanitarian needs in terms of hot meals, but at the moment, for the next five to seven days, teams will be on the ground to assist the affected families," said Sablay.
