Police kill 4 suspects in shootout in Bronkhorstspruit

Gauteng police are investigating multiple offences, including attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms, following a shootout that left four suspects dead in Bronkhorstspruit.

Officers, acting on intelligence about a planned heist, intercepted the suspects along the R25. 

The suspects reportedly opened fire, sparking a shootout that killed three at the scene.

A fourth suspect was killed in a second exchange of gunfire in the Welbekend area, while another managed to flee on foot.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said three firearms, including two rifles, were recovered, along with ammunition and a hijacked vehicle.

"Further investigation led the police to the suspects' safe house in Dennilton in Limpopo province, where explosives and a hijacked Mercedes-Benz were recovered. One suspect was arrested. Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms, amongst other crimes."
