Prominent Afrikaner groups, including the FW de Klerk Foundation, are strongly rejecting United States President Donald Trump’s claims that white Afrikaners are being persecuted and their land seized in South Africa.
The Foundation’s executive director, Christo van der Rheede, says such statements are false, divisive, and damaging to South Africa’s reputation ahead of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg later in November.
Van der Rheede warned that Trump’s comments, amplified by AfriForum and Solidarity, have deepened racial polarisation and fuelled mistrust among South Africans.
"I've never seen the division so stark, especially on social media, in the public discourse. We cannot allow Donald Trump to make these claims, and it goes unchallenged because it's South Africa that, in the end, has to deal with it."
He added that while the country faces serious governance and corruption challenges, these do not amount to racial persecution.
Van der Rheede urged citizens across all racial and political lines to stand together, protect constitutional values, nd focus on building a united, non-racial future rather than feeding divisive foreign narratives.
"If we don't come together as a nation, like we've come together in 1994, like we came together last year to unite and put South Africans first, then we're going to find ourselves in serious trouble going forward."
