After nearly two weeks of relentless rain, both Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) remain on storm watch.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in Gauteng, with the possibility of heavy downpours, small hail, strong winds and localised flooding.
Meanwhile, parts of KwaZulu-Natal are under a more serious yellow level 4 warning after days of heavy rainfall caused flash floods, road closures and damage to homes in low-lying areas.
Inland, the rain shows no sign of letting up and many in Gauteng are wondering if the sun’s gone on holiday.
Forecasters said the storms are being fuelled by a moisture-laden system stretching across the interior and residents should expect more afternoon downpours throughout the week.
“Warning levels remain the same. Rain chances decrease mid-week, but another round of showers and thunder showers is expected over the central and eastern areas this weekend,” said forecaster Tokelo Chiloane.
In KZN, disaster management teams remain on high alert, with authorities urging communities near rivers and slopes to stay vigilant.
