EC cops investigating fatal attack on long-distance bus

Eastern Cape police are investigating a violent attack on a long-distance bus which claimed the life of one woman and has left two other passengers injured.

It is understood gunmen approached the bus on Wednesday afternoon on the R61 between Cofimvaba and eNgcobo.

Eastern Cape Department of Transport department has condemned the attack.

“What has happened on the R61 is a barbaric act that has robbed a family of a loved one. Possibly a mother just trying to make ends meet. The MEC for Transport in the eastern cape Mr Xolile Nqatha says this senseless violence has no place in our province saying we cannot allow transport competition to turn our roads into battlefields,” said the department’s spokesperson, Unathi Binqose.
