FlySafair says the work stoppage it initiated is set to continue for at least another week.

The lockout was implemented last week, after union, SACCA, rejected the company's proposal for a 5.7% increase to salaries and 7.5% annual bonus.

The airline said that non-unionised workers had since then ensured operations function uninterrupted.

FlySafair began what it calls an employer-initiated work stoppage, otherwise known as a lockout, on 4 November.

A lockout option is usually implemented after negotiations have failed to expedite a resolution in disputes over wages or working conditions.

FlySafair spokesperson, Kirby Gordon, said it offered its employees to accept the company's offer on an individual basis and report for work.

"So yes, there are still members that are locked out. That pool is becoming smaller and smaller every day, as obviously, the sort of cost to keep participating, you know, gets bigger and bigger."

The airline said it has taken the decision to lock employees out for another week to accommodate the rest of its employees on their flying roster.
