Collen Mashawana Foundation has formally withdrawn from the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

This follows clarification from the Independent Development Trust (IDT).

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) faces serious allegations, including forged signatures on payment sheets and fraudulent workers' documents.

The IDT said, despite the foundations' withdrawal, its investigations into the allegations will continue.

Earlier this year, Mashawana was linked to the disgraced CEO of IDT, Tebogo Malaka, who allegedly bribed a Daily Maverick journalist.

The Malaka family trust had previously questioned the legality of the hidden cameras that captured the meeting between Malaka, IDT spokesperson Phasha Makgolane and Myburgh on a wine farm in Stellenbosch.

Daily Maverick reported on its investigations into the alleged corrupt dealings linking Mashawana to Malaka.

It also reported that EPWP workers contracted by the foundation were not being paid.

And in an attempt to clear his reputation, Mashawana approached the courts for an urgent gag order, but failed.

His foundation is accused of forging signatures on attendance registers, payment sheets, and creating fraudulent paperwork for workers.

The IDT revealed that it has requested the NGO to submit certain documents as proof, adding that governance processes to ensure accountability, transparency, and proper use of public funds remain in place.
