Two Democratic Alliance (DA) members of Parliament (MPs) have been officially sworn into President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Cabinet, filling the positions left vacant after two ministers were dismissed.
DA national spokesperson Willie Aucamp was sworn in at the Union Buildings as the new minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.
Aucamp's appointment comes after the party leader, John Steenhuisen, asked Ramaphosa to remove Dion George from the position.
The newly appointed minister for Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment takes office just over a year after the Government of National Unity (GNU) was established.
He replaces George, who was recently removed from the position.
At the same time, Alexandra Abrahams has been officially sworn in as the deputy minister of Trade and Industry.
Abrahams replaces Andrew Whitfield, who was dismissed in June for undertaking an international trip without the president’s approval.
"I, Alexandra Lilian Amelia Abrahams, swear that I’ll be faithful to the Republic of South Africa and will obey, respect, and uphold the constitution and all other laws of the republic."
Both DA members said they’re looking forward to serving the country.
