FIASA calls for urgent conclusion of SARS audit at Cape Town International Airport

The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa (FIASA) is calling for the urgent conclusion of a South African Revenue Service (SARS) audit at Cape Town International Airport.

The association said that due to the continued detention of Jet A-1 fuel stocks under SARS verification, suppliers have been unable to uplift product from the Burgan Cape Terminals in the Port of Cape Town.

This has reduced the available supply to the Cape Town International Airport, which is now said to be receiving fuel from the OR Tambo International Airport.

FIASA said that the extended duration of this process has heightened the risk of fuel shortages that could disrupt flights, impact tourism, and undermine the Western Cape economy during the peak travel season.

Spokesperson for the association Phila Mzamo said the current contingency measure is unsustainable.

"The affected fuel import facility holds approximately 20 days of Jet A1 stock. It means suppliers who are dependent on the affected fuel import facility are unable to supply their customers."
