Mpumalanga officials are investigating the cause of a head-on collision that claimed the lives of four people on Sunday.

Two sedans collided on the R38 between Hendrina and Carolina amid severe warnings for disruptive rain in parts of the province.
The victims of the crash include three occupants in one vehicle and the driver of the second sedan.

No other injuries were reported.

Spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Moeti Mmusi, said, "Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Mr Jackie Macie, has called on motorists to exercise extreme caution on the road to avoid deadly crashes, especially during rainy weather."

"He adds that the current conditions affect visibility and drivability of vehicles. The MEC is therefore calling for heightened vigilance and stricter adherence to the rules in order to avoid devastating crashes."
