Controversial North West businessman Brown Mogotsi claims he is a Crime Intelligence agent and that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is working for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the United States (US).

Mogotsi is currently testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.

Mogotsi claims he was recruited as a Crime Intelligence informant in 1999 and in 2009 he was recruited as a contact agent.

He said part of his role as a contact agent is to provide information to Crime Intelligence.

Mogotsi claims that in 2023, when South Africa filed a criminal case to the International Court of Justice against Israel, there were concerns by the Israelis about the coal trade route.

This, as Richards Bay Coal Terminal in northern KZN serves as a global exporter for coal to many international countries, including Israel and the US.

“There was a worry from those interests that South Africa may halt the trade.”

He claims Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and Mkhwanazi were recruited by the CIA to protect theirinterests.

“There was a suspicion then, a real suspicion that Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency, the American one.”

Mogotsi said this information was supplied to him by a source, with no proof provided to the commission yet to substantiate his claims.
