Two weeks ago, Mogotsi survived an alleged assassination attempt after a vehicle he was traveling in was shot at several times near Vosloorus in Ekurhuleni.

Despite numerous bullets hitting the car, Mogotsi escaped without injury, raising suspicions about the veracity of his claims.

On 5 March, during a parliamentary portfolio committee sitting, the name of Mogotsi was made ublic for the first time by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Mkhwanazi accused Mogotsi of meddling in police affairs and being a close associate to Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu.

Since then, Mogotsi’s name has been widely mentioned in both the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry as well as Parliament’s ad hoc committee.

Evidence previously presented before the Madlanga Commission showed alleged WhatsApp exchanges between Mogotsi and criminally accused tender tycoon Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The messages show that Mogotsi received more than R100,000 from Matlala in gratification payments, with promises to arrange a meeting for Matlala and Mchunu.

Mogotsi also facilitated the payments for flights and accommodation from Matlala for several African National Congress (ANC) delegates to attend the 8 January celebrations in Cape Town.

Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya confirmed that he knows and met Mogotsion two occasions.

Mogotsi is also understood to have close links to Crime Intelligence head of national security and counterintelligence Feroz Khan.
