The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Browen Johnson is expected to be elected as the new mayor of the George Municipality at its council meeting later this week.
DA Western Cape leader Tertuis Simmers made the announcement in George on Tuesday.
Johnson is the town's deputy mayor and will be taking over the reins from Jackie von Brandis, who will now become the party's chief whip in council.
A new coalition agreement was also entered into between the DA, Freedom Front Plus, and the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP).
The parties are expected to support Johnson and a Freedom Front Plus candidate as aayor and deputy mayor respectively in council on Friday.
The DA provincial leader Tertuis Simmers: "Stable coalition governance at the end of the day must benefit residents, they must feel the difference of such a coalition. In George, the results so far in our previous coalition agreement speak for themselves. In terms of infrastructure and development thereof in George, we have seen the delivery through the BFR Water Projects and an acceleration where they have even finished six months ahead of schedule. That is what a stable governance does."
