With international heads of state expected in Johannesburg for the summit, some groups have indicated their intention to hold protests to voice various concerns.

Law enforcement authorities are urging groups planning to protest on the sidelines of this weekend’s G20 Leaders’ Summit to express their grievances within the bounds of the law.

With international heads of state expected in Johannesburg for the summit, some groups have indicated their intention to hold protests to voice various concerns.

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) said law enforcement will combatively respond to anyone who poses a threat to the security of the international visitors.

Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday night, NATJOINTS co-chair Tebello Mosikili emphasised that police will not tolerate any unlawful behaviour.

“Failure to do so, could land you on the wrong side of the law and we shall also not hesitate to act decisively with any acts of lawlessness. Designated speakers’ corners around the vicinity of Nasrec have been identified for this purpose.”
