The advocacy group Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) is hoping that all the cases against the alleged paedophile teacher, Iain Wares, will be wrapped up soon.

The 86-year-old Wares is facing sexual and physical abuse charges in South Africa and the United Kingdom (UK).

Wares made a brief appearance in the Simon's Town Magistrates Court on Thursday on a UK extradition warrant.

The matter has been postponed to January next year for Wares to appoint a legal representative to deal with the extradition.

Wares is fighting his extradition to the UK.

In the UK, he faces 90 charges related to the sexual and physical abuse of more than 60 boys in Scotland, five decades ago.

Wares is also currently on trial at the Wynberg Magistrate's Court for allegedly sexually abusing a pupil at Rondebosch Boys' Preparatory School in 1988.

That matter is scheduled to return to court on 2 and 9 December for possible closing arguments.

WMACA advocacy manager, Luke Lamprecht, said they were pleased that both cases are being prioritised.

"They can see that there's real public outcry around this. Because how does it take so long to get a man who is a self-confessed child sex offender to stand trial and face justice? You must remember that it's not just about him facing justice, it's about the fact that it will give some closure to his victims."
