Madlanga Commission: Mogotsi adamant his claims will be corroborated by other witnesses

Controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi is adamant that the outlandish claims he’s presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will be corroborated by other witnesses, who are yet to testify.

During cross-examination, Mogotsi struggled to provide direct answers to questions about his links to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and criminally-accused Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.

Evidence of message exchanges between Mogotsi, Matlala and Mchunu were interrogated, with Mogotsi accused of getting caught in a web of lies.

Claims of CIA operatives, coded messages, and accusations of political interference in high-profile police investigations from a self-proclaimed secret agent.

The testimony by Mogotsi before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry sounds like something straight out of a 007 movie.

And according to Madlanga Commission of Inquiry chief evidence leader, Advocate Matthew Chaskalson, Mogotsi’s testimony is on par with a James Bond script.

"I'm reminded of what the villain says in one of those early James Bond movies: 'Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action'. We’re at about eight times and you want us to believe they’re all just coincidences?"

Mogotsi could be seen fumbling, scratching his head at times, trying to come up with answers during cross-examination that were simply not making sense.

His contradictory replies drew immense scrutiny from the commissioners and Chaskalson, who continued to interrogate the veracity of his version of events, with specific links being drawn that he facilitated the funding for Mchunu’s presidential ambitions through Matlala.
