The summit, which is a social movement that amplifies the voices of people, will also be honouring all the victims.

People have gathered at the Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg, where the summit is taking place in solidarity with victims of abuse.

One of the participants, Kearabetswe Moopelo, said they aim to raise the issues so that other parts of the world can know what is happening in the country

“So, we want to take this opportunity to not make it just a national shutdown but let it be a global shutdown. Have our global organisations amplify the issue and maybe start a fire, hopefully start a fire in all the other places. We're definitely including it in our declaration process."
