The two-day congress, which brought together over two thousand delegates from across the country, wrapped up at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.
This is where a new, fresh-faced leadership emerged, with the old guard of Helen Zille, Ivan Meyer and Dion George having been replaced by youthful successors.
Out of the DA's newly elected top 10, only two people are 50 years and older.
Thirty-six-year-old Mark Burke has been elected as the party’s new federal finance chair.
'There's a baton being passed to all of us as young leaders, including myself. One of our federal chairpersons, James Selfe, used to say, "Don't mess this up"' – he used stronger language than that. I hope that we don’t drop the baton as it's being passed to us," Burke said.
His age mate Siviwe Gwarube says she’s humbled the party has elected her as one of its deputy federal chairpersons.
“Being voted as the first deputy federal chairperson is no small feat, and of course I want to tell them and the people at home we will be building a stronger DA. A trustworthy DA and a DA they can connect with.”
The new leadership will lead the party until 2029.
