Johannesburg City Power has urged residents to stop threatening its technicians during electricity cut-off operations across the city.

This follows a video circulating online showing a City Power electrician being confronted and seemingly threatened by angry community members.

City Power has called on law enforcement to investigate the incident, as many of its employees have faced similar confrontations during cut-off operations.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said that the targeting of the utility's staff must come to an end.

"The behaviour displayed in the video is unacceptable and borders on intimidation. Publicly confronting, harassing, lying and humiliating technicians who are performing lawful duties does not help to root out corruption instead, it places innocent workers at significant risk and undermines service delivery." Mangena said.
