The prosecution team in the trial of alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack and 14 others, used evidence this week in court to connect the dots in a bid to place Modack at the centre of the attempted murder of criminal defence attorney, William Booth.

Modack allegedly used at least three of his co-accused to plan an attack on Booth in April 2020.

However, Modack insists he was never the mastermind behind the attack, but rather a victim of a conspiracy by his alleged underworld rivals.

State prosecutor, Greg Wolmarans, used cellphone evidence and the testimonies of previous witnesses to show how Modack allegedly used co-accused Zane Kilian and Jacques Cronje in a plot to murder Booth.

It is the State's case that Modack orchestrated the attack on Booth after the attorney used a protection order to prevent Modack from allegedly extorting money from one of his clients.

According to evidence presented in the Western Cape High Court, Cronje threatened Booth's client during what Modack claims was a debt collection situation in March 2020, while Kilianwas tracking the client's location via cellphone pings at the same time.

"We already have Mr Cronje updating his boss on March 9. Now we have on March 11, Mr Kilian pinging Vallie under the reference 'BO BOSS BOSS', but you say that's not you, hey." Wolmarans probed.

In response, Modack denied this claim, telling the court that no screenshot was sent to him.

The matter will return to court on Monday.
