Ramaphosa leads SA delegation at AU-EU Summit in Luanda, seeks support for Agenda 2063

President Cyril Ramaphosa is in Angola’s capital, Luanda, to attend the 7th African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) Summit, a two-day gathering aimed at strengthening political and economic ties between the two continents.

The summit, hosted on the back of the successful G20 Summit in South Africa, the first ever on African soil, will see leaders engage on a range of critical issues as some regions across the globe continue to battle ongoing conflict.

This year’s summit marks the 25th anniversary of the AU-EU Partnership.

As a member state of the AU, South Africa will prioritise securing support from the EU region for the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of the AU Agenda 2063.

The African Union’s delegation is led by host President João Lourenço as the chairperson of the AU, and Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, chairperson of the AU Commission.

Europe is represented by the leaders of France and Denmark, alongside the president of the European Council, António Costa.

The 7th AU-EU Summit is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday.
