Panel selecting the next NPA boss urging the public to submit their comments on the nominees

The panel responsible for selecting South Africa’s next National Director of Public Prosecutions is urging the public to submit their comments on the nominees.
The selection process is set to start on December 10th, ahead of the current NPA head, Advocate Shamila Batohi, completing her term in January 2026.
The advisory panel, chaired by justice and constitutional development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, has shortlisted six candidates from a pool of 32 who met the minimum requirements.
Kubayi’s Spokesperson Terrence Manase, "The panel noted that this represents an important step towards ensuring a transparent, credible and inclusive process. The panel further indicated that members of the public and institutions are invited to submit comments on these candidates by 5 December."
The candidates list which includes the NPA’s Investigating Director Advocate Andrea Johnson , as well as Advocate Menzi Simelane from the johannesburg society of advocates – can be found on the justice department’s website.
