Floyd Shivambu’s Afrika Mayibuye Movement has dismissed claims of a ‘leadership crisis’ within the party, stating that many of those who resigned were, in fact, fired for incompetence.
The party recently overhauled its national leadership structure following a number of high-profile exits. The Mayibuye Movement, which officially transitioned into a political party three months ago, held a media briefing in Soweto today to address the shake-up.
Ahead of its first national convention this week, the party explained it conducted a review of its leadership and concluded that significant change was necessary.
Mayibuye’s President, Floyd Shivambu, addressed the resignations directly, accusing the former members of opportunism.
“They then opportunistically resigned to create a public perception that the organisation is in a crisis and people are jumping off when we are removing them.”
Shivambu stressed the importance of high standards for leaders in the newly formed party.
“The resignations of the officials is because of incompetent people who were unable to do organisational work.”
Despite the overhaul and the public exits, Shivambu maintained that the Mayibuye Movement remains a stable organisation.
