DA WC refuses to allow widespread gun violence to go unchecked

At least six people, including a nine-year-old boy, lost their lives in gun attacks in the past 36 hours.
According to the latest crime statistics, firearms continue to be the weapon of choice in most of these murders.
Between April and June 2025, the province saw 282 gang-related murders and 710 firearm-related murders.
In the July to September 2025 period, a further 293 gang-related murders and 700 firearm-related murders were reported.

The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape said it's deeply disturbed by the prevalence of gun violence across the province.
The party added that the rise in violent crime reflects the profound fear and insecurity that so many communities face daily.
The DA's Benedicta van Minnen said the violence cannot continue unchecked.
"We cannot allow this violence to become our new normal. The DA calls on all South Africans to join in the fight against crime and violence, to stand with the residents of the Western Cape and to demand action from those in power."
The party said it will write to the acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia, to request an illegal firearms reduction strategy tailored to the Western Cape.
