Western Cape police have made a significant drug bust in George, seizing 6 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of R3.6 million.

The operation was launched after police received a crucial tip-off regarding a truck transporting drugs from Johannesburg to George.

The identified truck was intercepted and stopped on the N12 in George. Following a thorough search, the 6kg consignment of cocaine was discovered concealed inside the cabin of the vehicle.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed the arrest of a 46-year-old man in connection with the seizure. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Twigg stated that the drugs were likely intended for local distribution, adding:

"The drugs are believed to be transported to a drug den, and forms part of the investigation of where it came from. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile applauds the members for playing their part in confiscating the drugs before it reached the streets of the province."
