A Christmas parade in the Canadian city of Brantford has sparked controversy after anonymous signs declaring 'Santa is fake' were placed along the route.
The signs, which urged parents to 'stop lying to your children', appeared during a festive procession involving around 30,000 participants, upsetting families and prompting complaints to local police.
"Some complete meanie beanie Grinch put up signs saying Santa is fake, your parents are Santa, stop lying to your children. Residents have had their fury at this. Some families taking part were, hang on a moment, they called the police, would you believe? The police have now had to take a stance on this, and they've said, 'Look, the festive spirit is very important. It's to be encouraged. The spirit of Santa is to be encouraged. But a total Grinch may be frowned upon, but is not actually illegal'," says international correspondent Adam Gilchrist.
