The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has forecast a 60% chance of thunderstorms over most parts of Gauteng for Tuesday.

Residents are urged to avoid being outdoors as the heavy rains are expected to come with excessive lightning.

Emergency services remain on high alert but nothing hectic has been reported.

SAWS has advised that should vehicles be trapped in amid flooding, motorists must abandon them and seek higher ground.

SAWS’ forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela, explained: “Partly cloudy conditions will dominate across the province with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, warm temperatures over most parts of Gauteng, but hot in some places in the northern part with a yearly level 2 warning of severe thunderstorms expected into the afternoon.”
