Manufacturing production rises 0.2% year-on-year, led by food and electrical machinery

Eight of the ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth over this period.

Manufacturing production increased by 0.2 % in October compared with October 2024.

Director of Industry Statistics at Stats SA, Nicolai Claassen, says food and beverages and electrical machinery.

 Food and beverages was 1.9 % and electrical machinery 6.5 % stronger. Together, both divisions added 0.7 % a percentage point to overall growth.”

Claassen says two divisions weighed on overall performance.

“Plastic, glass and non-metallic mineral products was down 5.8 % and wood, paper and publishing was 6.9 % weaker in October. On a month-on-month basis, seasoning-adjusted manufacturing production rose by 1 % in October. This followed increases of 0.3 % in September and 0.4 % in August.”
