An infant has died in a multi-vehicle crash on the N2 at the Kei Cuttings, between East London and Butterworth.
The three-month-old was killed after a VW Polo lost control on wet and slippery roads, colliding with a bakkie and a Mercedes-Benz sedan traveling in the opposite direction.
Four other people sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said the crash was the most serious of several incidents recorded on Friday, as festive-season traffic begins to increase.
The MEC has conveyed condolences to the family, urging motorists to slow down and adjust their driving to wet conditions.
