A planned assassination at Wynberg Magistrates’ Court was prevented on Monday after a joint police operation led to seven arrests and the seizure of several firearms.
Police say a team consisting of SAPS and City Law Enforcement officers acted on information obtained from social media to halt the planned attack. The tip-off included details regarding a suspicious minibus en route to Wynberg, where a witness in a court matter was reportedly targeted to be shot dead.

The alleged hit squad of seven suspects was stopped before they could carry out the assassination. Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa confirmed that the joint operation successfully prevented the shooting.
“During the operation executed by SAPS members as well as the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement officials, three illegal firearms with 60 rounds of ammunition were seized,” said Potelwa.
City Mayco Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, noted that dangerous weapons, cellphones, and narcotics were also recovered during the arrests.
“Initial investigations suggest the suspects have links to known gangs and may be involved in previous shootings,” Smith added.
The seven suspects are due to appear in court on Wednesday.
