There’s a quiet shift happening along the lower KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, where towns like Port Shepstone and Margate are drawing fresh attention from home buyers.

Pam Golding Properties South Coast Franchise lead, Mohammed Valodia, says the region is starting to attract a mix of semigrants from Gauteng, fairly young families and holiday investors, all looking for a different pace of life and better value.

But what’s driving this renewed interest?

Valodia says the market is being reshaped by three key factors that are coming together at the right time.

One of which, he says, is the return of direct flights into Margate. And the other two?

"Steady semigration and incredible value of well-priced properties."

The South Coast offers something quite special, says Valodia, especially when compared to other coastal markets aroundthe country.

"A beautiful coastal lifestyle, warmer weather, stronger community and good amenities at price points that are far more accessible."

And while making the move to the coast has traditionally been the perogative of older buyers, that picture is starting to change, he adds.

"While retirees are certainly part of the movement, the interesting part is the rise in younger families and professionals choosing to relocate permanently."
