Man arrested following fatal shooting of young woman in Hanover Park

Police have apprehended a 31-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old woman in Hanover Park.

The victim was discovered on Sunday inside her home in Surwood Walk after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound. Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that local authorities responded to the scene on Sunday morning.

"Philippi police attended to a complaint of a shooting in Surwood Walk, Hanover Park, on Sunday morning and upon arrival on the scene, they found a 23-year-old female in the bedroom who sustained a gunshot wound to her head," Twigg said.

While an arrest has been made, the motive behind the killing remains unclear. Twigg noted that detectives are still working to establish the events leading up to the tragedy.

"The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. We can confirm that a 31-year-old male was arrested in connection with the murder and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court once he has been charged," Twigg added.
