Police in Gauteng have made a breakthrough in the Saulsville mass shooting, leading to the arrest of one person.

Twelve people were killed when three gunmen opened fire at patrons of an unlicensed tavern in Tshwane more than two weeks ago.

The youngest victim was a 3-year-old child. More than a dozen others were injured.

The 32-year-old arrested on Sunday is one of three suspects linked to the heinous crime.

“During the arrest, the team recovered an unlicensed firearm, a handgun, believed to have been used in the commission of the multiple murders. The firearm will be taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory for ballistic analysis,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili.

Muridili said that the suspect is expected in court on Monday on the firearm charge before making another appearance for murder and attempted murder in Pretoria on Tuesday.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrates Court today, 22 December 2025. He is facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will then be transferred to Gauteng to face the full might of the law. The manhunt for the remaining two suspects is continuing.”
