Pre-owned vehicles reseller Webuycars has been fined R2.5 million and forced to issue refunds to some of its customers over unfair sale practices.
The company has entered into a settlement agreement with the National Consumer Commission (NCC).
It was investigated for contravening certain sections of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) by failing to provide remedies for customers on sale agreements.
As part of the agreement, Webuycars has agreed to issue refunds amounting to R3 million to affected customers.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba said these complaints date back three years.
“They are also going to revise their terms and conditions to ensure they are aligned with the CPA. There’s also a commitment to conduct consumer education awareness to ensure that they educate their consumers and clients when purchasing pre-owned vehicles and also a commitment to create up to 300 job opportunities over a period of five years.”
