Gauteng police have launched an investigation looking into how a group of teenage boys suspected to be victims of human trafficking ended up in Mulbarton in the south of Johannesburg.
On Monday metro police officers spotted several half-naked boys walking in the area.
A JMPD officer who responded to the scene established that the boys were foreign nationals and didn't speak English.
Police later identified a blue Volkswagen Jetta transporting two additional boys.
Officers gave chase and intercepted the vehicle along Coronation street, where the remaining two teenagers were found and a suspect was arrested.
A joint operation involving the Johannesburg metro police department, SAPS Mondeor and the Hawks’ serious organised crime investigation unit led to the arrest of a 47-year-old foreign national in the Johannesburg CBD.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Booysens magistrate’s court on Wednesday on charges of suspected trafficking in persons and contravention of immigration laws.
