Exams quality assurer Umalusi has warned that there will be consequences for those found guilty of cheating during their 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

The National Investigation Task Team (NITT) is still busy with investigations into pupils who may be guilty of cheating in the final exam.

About 40 pupils were identified in December last year.

Briefing the media on Friday, Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi said that despite this, the examinations were successful and met the required quality standards.

In December, officials detected a breach during marking processes when they noticed similarities between candidates’ answers.

This led officials to candidates at seven schools in Pretoria who had cheated on English, Mathematics and Physical Sciences exams.

Rakometsi said investigators were still on the lookout for more candidates who cheated during their examinations.

"There will be consequences for anyone who is not included in the number should they be discovered later on. This is because the work of the NITT is ongoing," he said adding that Umalisi is empowered by the Constitution.
