Informal trade is booming outside the Moruleng Stadium in the North West, where the African National Congress (ANC) is holding its 114th anniversary rally.

From selling ANC regalia, food, drinks and other items, business owners are looking to make profits.

Thousands of ANC supporters have gathered at the stadium for the party's January 8 statement, a date marking its birthday.

As with all ANC stadium rallies, small business owners have also arrived looking to make a quick buck.

One of them is Kingsley Zwane, a Soweto-based businessman, who sells braai meat with a starch option of pap or steamed bread.

"Since we came here at about 3am in the morning, it was not fully packed but at about 7,8,9 am they came through and started buying. Local economy, viva ANC."

However its been a slow morning for Jabulani Phakathi, who says he's been selling ANC regalia for over a decade.

"I know the anc people very well, when they come out, all of them will be buying. The problem is they come late, but things will pick up when they come out."

Inside the stadium, local artists have been entertaining the crowds ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa's January 8 statement speech.
