Du Noon fire damage still being assessed

The extent of the Du Noon fire will only be known on Saturday, after a blaze ripped through the Site 5 informal settlement on Friday.

The City's Disaster Risk Management and Gift of the Givers will attend to immediate humanitarian relief needs.

The city said once the impact of the fire has been confirmed and all affected persons registered, the lists will be submitted to different government departments for relief from their side.
"Full humanitarian assistance will be rendered in Du Noon as soon as the site is declared safe. Meanwhile, operations in Phakamadi Informal Settlement continue as normal," said Gift of the Givers spokesperson, Ali Sablay.
Donations from the public can be dropped off at fire stations in Goodwood, Roeland Street, Lakeside, Constantia, Hout Bay, Strand, Wynberg and Milnerton.
