The Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary has appealed for support after the Stanford fire swept through its premises.

It said while some of the animals sustained minor burns, others were in a critical condition and receiving urgent care.

The Stanford fire is the second fire to break out in Gansbaai. It followed the Pearly Beach fire that started on Sunday.

The sanctuary's co-founder, Catherine Nyquist, said the full extent of the damage is yet to be determined.

"Right now, what we need most is donations and support to provide for this vet care, which could be needed for days, even weeks. We just don't know at the moment."
