SACP says it wants to enter govt to help ANC accelerate land & economic redistribution

The South African Communist Party (SACP) says it wants to enter government to help the African National Congress (ANC) accelerate land and economic redistribution. 

The SACP announced in 2024 that it will contest elections independently, no longer under the ANC banner, a move that has created tensions between the alliance partners. 

The SACP was present at Moruleng Stadium in the North West as the ANC held a rally to mark its 114th anniversary.

SACP deputy general secretary Madala Masuku said while the ANC has made progress since taking over from the apartheid government, land and wealth inequality remain a persistent challenge in the country. 

"So on this day today, we are saying to you comrades, we feel that the SACP on the issue of property relations and economic transformation - we want to come in and participate directly into the state to assist you in order to drive this process to move at a faster pace."
