Matric class of 2025 records SA's highest pass rate ever

The Matric class of 2025 reached the highest pass rate in the country’s history, with a little over 88 percent.
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube said that of the more than 700,000 learners that sat for the exams, 656,000 passed.
Delivering the exam outcome in Johannesburg on Monday Gwarube said that the outcomes are the result of hard work by learners, teachers and parents.
"88% is the highest pass rate in our country’s history. To every premier, every MEC every head of department, every district director, every principal, and every teacher: these outcomes are built day by day, term by term, year by year and we honour the work behind them.
Pass rate by provinces
1. KwaZulu-Natal - 90.6%
2. Free State - 89.33%
3. Gauteng - 89.06%
4. Northwest - 88.49%
5. Western Cape - 88.2%
6. Northern Cape - 87.79%. (Marking the biggest improvement of all the provinces.)
7. Mpumalanga - 86.55%
8. Limpopo - 86.15%
9. Eastern Cape - 84.17%
