The City of Cape Town says it's on track with investing about R430 million to upgrade key infrastructure in the Helderberg sewer system.
Residents have been demanding accountability and immediate action from the municipality to stop sewage spills in the area.
The community said the ongoing sewage spills in the suburbs and discharge on beaches have impacted residents, businesses, and beachgoers.
Water and Sanitation MMC Zahid Badroodien says upgrades to the Trappies Bulk sewer, Gordon’s Bay pump station and rising main will support an already stressed network to better cope with sewerage demand.
"I acknowledge the frustration of our residents following the various ongoing sewer overflows which affect parts of the Strand community. I understand the anger that this causes; the R430 million infrastructure work in Helderberg is so important to reduce and eventually eliminate these sewer overflows," he added.
