The City of Johannesburg has closed a public pool in Dobsonville, Soweto, after a minor died from drowning.

The tragic incident is reported to have happened in in front of lifeguards on Sunday.

The 10-year-old was accompanied by his father for the outing that ended in tragedy.

Council speaker Margaret Arnolds visited the family on Wednesday and confirmed the city would be investigating the matter.

However, she added that a police case into the incident has not been opened yet.

“The investigation will be happening; we will ensure that it is done. It is really sad that something happened at our pool.” Arnold said.
