"Coaching the All Blacks has been the honour of my life," said Roberston following the announcement that he stepped down as head coach.
New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has confirmed an immediate search for a replacement.
“We've taken an extensive look at the team’s progress on and off the field and have subsequently had discussions with Scott on the way forward. Both NZR and Scott agree it is in the best interests of the team that he depart his role as head coach," said NZR Chairperson David Kirk.
Kirk added, “As always, he [Robertson] has continued to put the All Blacks first, and we respect that he has done the hard but right thing in agreeing to depart. His passion for the team as both a player and coach is evident, and his commitment to and involvement in rugby in New Zealand at every level over a long period are significant. We wish him well for the future.”
The decision comes less than two years before the 2027 Rugby World Cup, as NZR looks to reset midway through the tournament cycle.
Robertson won 20 of his 27 Tests in charge, a record considered below All Blacks standards, with the review also revealing dissatisfaction among senior players and reports of internal unrest.
"My priority has always been the success of the All Blacks, and after discussion with New Zealand Rugby, I believe it is in the best interests of the team for me to step aside. As you can imagine, I am gutted by this outcome. I care deeply about this team," said Robertson.
The All Blacks face a packed calendar, including July Tests at home and a major tour to South Africa later this year, as speculation begins over who will take charge of the second-best rugby team in the world.
