The Limpopo government has stepped up its on-ground response to flooding in parts of the province as the COGTA MEC makes his first visit to the hard-hit Giyani area since the rains began.

The visit comes as emergency personnel increase their presence in flood-prone communities where conditions remain dangerous.

Authorities say the move is aimed at preventing further loss of life as water levels remain high.

Police have cordoned off the flooded D3840 bridge as rescue teams continue their work nearby.

The visit by Cogta MEC Basikopo Makamu marks his first time on the ground in Giyani since the flooding began, as the government moves to assess conditions firsthand and coordinate response efforts.

“But now the police are here, they’ve closed the road, I can confirm this community can’t access the bridge said COGTA MEC Basikopo Makamu

Officials said the heightened presence of emergency services will continue as heavy rain remains a threat, while communities are urged to stay away from flood-prone areas.
