ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said his party won’t relent in ensuring President Cyril Ramaphosa is held accountable for the possession of United States (US) dollars hidden in furniture on his Phala Phala farm in 2020.

On Friday, accused linked to the theft of that money are due back in court.

Meanwhile, ActionSA is gearing up for a legal challenge to a top-secret report on police conduct in chasing after the stolen money.

The party said 2026 is the year it will intensify its anti-corruption efforts, starting with a whistleblowers’ bill it unveiled in Parliament yesterday.

Despite being cleared of misconduct by investigations of the Public Protector and the Reserve Bank, Mashaba said the almost six-year-old Phala Phala saga is an embarrassment to the Government of National Unity (GNU), the country and the fight against corruption.

“We want to assure people of this country that Phala Phala is going nowhere. Phala Phala is going to remain a matter that this country is going to discuss until such time as we know how that money came into mattresses in the president’s house.”

He alleges Ramaphosa is being shielded in the Phala Phala matter by former opposition parties that previously were vocal on the matter but now form part of the GNU.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has also protested against the time it’s taking for the Constitutional Court to rule on Parliament’s handling of the Phala Phala matter.

“We are not going to let this matter rest. We know some of the parties which are now enjoying international travel and blue lights are saying they will protect Phala Phala.”

On Thursday, ActionSA introduced a bill that seeks to better protect whistleblowers and to offer incentives for their disclosures.
