Cape Flats mass shooting death toll rises

The death toll following a mass shooting at the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi has risen to eight.

Police Spokesperson FC Van Wyk says six victims died on the scene, one en route to hospital, and the eighth succumbed to injuries in hospital.

In the early hours of Saturday morning gunmen opened fire killing the eight people in the Cape Flats township.

MEC for Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais says those responsible must face the full might of the law.

"I urge SAPS to deploy a strong specialized investigation team to ensure that those responsible for this tragedy are swiftly identified, apprehended and made to face the full might of the law."
