President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for effective governance and coordination of the National Dialogue as the government sets its sights on nation-building.

Ramaphosa oversaw the induction of the National Dialogue Steering Committee in Pretoria this past weekend.

This marks a major step in the government-led initiative aimed at addressing the country’s social, economic, and governance issues.

Last year, the president named a panel of 99 members responsible for setting priorities and driving the implementation of the National Dialogue process.

During the induction, Ramaphosa addressed attendees.

“I propose that one of the first tasks of the steering committee should be to engage with the eminent persons group to establish effective mechanisms for coordination and cooperation.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the induction, Deputy President Paul Mashatile confirmed it could still be a while before the second session of the dialogue takes place.

“So it will take a few months.  It's a very involved, citizen-driven process. The government is supportive of the process.”
