Two soldiers are among those arrested by KZN authorities for drunk driving this past weekend.

A total of 45 motorists were taken into custody near Mtubatuba in the northern parts of the province.

This is part of efforts to reduce road fatalities caused by drunk and reckless drivers.

Spokesperson for the KZN Department of Transport and Human Settlements, Ndebezinhle Sibiya.

“The RTI (Road Traffic Information) team is cleaning up the road networks in Mtubatuba, and they are executing the operation with precision. The team is very firm and determined to reduce road fatalities.”

Sibiya says a father and daughter duo were also arrested.

“It’s quite disappointing that a father and a daughter get arrested for drunk driving. Two soldiers were also arrested, two mechanics, three taxi drivers, two truck drivers, four teachers, one bank teller, and a fisherman was also arrested. He even tried to offer fish to the team, and they declined it.”
