Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has raised serious concerns about the under resourcing of the Kraaifontein Police Station.
On Monday, Winde visited Kraaifontein Police Station as part of the provincial government’s efforts to assess policing capacity and evaluate crime fighting resources.
In the latest crime statistics released in November last year, Kraaifontein recorded the second highest number of murder cases in the province and country.
This highlights the scale of the challenge facing police.

Latest crime statistics show murders in Kraaifontein increased by 23 percent between July and September last year.
Premier Alan Winde said police in the area are stretched beyond capacity, with too few officers and limited resources to effectively respond to crime.
"When you arrive at this police station there's a long queue of students trying to get affidavits and documents signed, that takes resources away from policing. So, we are looking at the areas where the province can step in to say who else can sign these affidavits.”
He warned that this is undermining efforts to curb violent crime in the area.
